Les Chiens et Gîte du Grand Nord offers a variety of packages ranging from two to five day excursions. Or, why not create your own tailor-made winter adventure holiday? Whatever you choose, our holiday packages give you the opportunity to discover the magnificent Monts-Valin area, the Saguenay fjord and the vast Lac- St-Jean (St. John Lake). These differing landscapes and exceptional wilderness areas are sure to enthral you and will create magical memories of a lifetime!

St-Rose-du-Nord (St. Rose-of-the-North) and its magnificent fjord is the place to be during your snowmobile trek. The view of the frozen Saguenay river from the surrounding hills is unique and unforgettable. Lac-St-Jean, completely frozen during the winter, will give you the impression of having reached the Great North.

Package 1.
Sample Itinerary Description:
Day 1:
Arrive at our base camp and settle into one of our log cabins for dinner and an overnight stay.
Day 2:
After breakfast and a briefing from one of our qualified guides, you will depart in the direction of Monts-Valin. Lunch along the trail in a snowmobile lodge. Arrive in St-Rose-du-Nord, enjoy dinner and an overnight stay at Nicole and Gilles’ Guesthouse.
Day 3:
After breakfast, you will depart in the direction of the fjord. Lunch along the trail in a snowmobile lodge. You will return at St-David-de-Falardeau in the afternoon and settle into one of our log cabins for dinner and an overnight stay.

Package 2.
Day 1:
Arrive at our base camp and settle into one of our log cabins for dinner and an overnight stay.
Day 2:
After breakfast, receive a briefing from one of our qualified guides and depart for an initiation day. Come back to the base camp in the afternoon for dinner and an overnight stay in your log cabin.
Day 3:
After breakfast, you will depart in the direction of Monts- Valin. Lunch along the trail in a snowmobile lodge. Arrive in St-Rose-du-Nord, enjoy dinner and an overnight stay at Nicole and Gilles’ Guesthouse.
Day 4:
After breakfast, you will depart in the direction of the fjord and the eastern side of Monts-Valin. Lunch along the trail in a snowmobile lodge. You will arrive at Janet and Alan’s Guesthouse near Onatchiway Lake for dinner and an overnight stay.
Day 5:
After breakfast, depart in the direction of St-David-de-Falardeau. Lunch along the trail in a snowmobile lodge. Return to base camp in the afternoon and settle into your log cabin for dinner and an overnight stay.

After breakfast, you will depart in the direction of St-David-de-Falardeau. Lunch along the trail in a snowmobile lodge. Return to base camp in the afternoon and settle into your log cabin for dinner and an overnight stay.
All these packages can be modified at your request (e.g. alternative overnight accommodation). Additional activities like dog sledding or snowshoeing can be added, or the packages can be extended for longer excursions. The levels of difficulty can change according to climatic conditions. Participants should be aware that the weather can change very quickly, and it is necessary to be prepared for anything.
It is important to bring clothes that protect you from the wind, cold, rain and snow (see list of recommended clothing on the medical form provided). Dress in several layers so that you will be able to make adjustments as the day progresses to avoid being too hot or too cold.
Sunglasses and sunscreen are important even when it is not very cold or cloudy. The reflection of the sun on snow or ice can damage your eyes.
